In 1998 the traditional range of Esaote products
has been enlarged by the Pie Medical line of ultrasound,
ranging from battery powered portable units to Doppler
color-flow systems.

AU5
The AU5 is an ultrasound system
for multi-disciplinary use that incorporates all
the transducer technologies (linear, convex, phased
array, and annular array) adapted to today¹s most
diverse diagnostic requirements. Furthermore it
offers the most modern and advanced techniques available
today on the market.
With Esaote software it is possible
to benefit from the standard link channel (local
network, Internet, Intranet) to send images and
related reports simply and cost-effectively. The
images are exchanged with Dicom 3 standard protocol
and it is possible to archive and retrieve in all
the standard formats available on the market, from
hard disk to optical disk. It is also possible to
print CFM images with standard computer printers
with cost savings.
VHFS (Very High Frequency
Sonography) is the new diagnostic opportunity
provided by AU5. The VHFS offers both enhanced visualization
and, using the system¹s bidimensional and color
Doppler capabilities, identification of anatomical
structures and pathologies previously undetectable
by traditional sonography.
The Very High Doppler Frequencies
noticeably improve the sensivity to slow flow conditions
that constitute the principal vascular components
of superficial tissues.
The Power Doppler and the 180°
TEE multiplane probe, together with the endocavity
probes, make the AU5 a truly multidisciplinary system,
with applications in vascular, obstetrics and gynecology,
cardiology, neonatology and more.
With the OmniProbe IOE13A and the
Laparoscopic probe LP13A Esaote offers completely
new solutions for ultrasound diagnosis in
operating and angiographic theaters and during therapeutic
applications. The IOE13A with the multiple configuration
of the probe and handle attachments (Esaote patented)
offer the surgeon maximum flexibility and acces
to any vessel or organ. The probe body shaft has
four facets for handle and finger attachement. The
position can be changed on
shaft to offer four different profiles.
VHFS
Very High Frequency Sonography:
a new diagnostic opportunity
VHFS provides ultrasound examinations
at frequencies higher than 10 Mhz, a barrier previously
thought impossible to break in routine clinical
ultrasound. The AU4 Idea and AU5 Harmonic technology
makes it possible to perform most of the VHFS applications
with general purpose ultrasound equipment of the
highest quality.
VHFS allows both a better visualization
of the anatomical structures or pathologies already
visible with traditional sonography and the highlighting
of new normal or pathological semiological characters
using bidimensional or Color Doppler features.
VHFS, noticeably improves sensitivity
