The first and only hair removal &
vascular lesion laser with dynamic cooling.
The system has a longer wavelength (755nm),
high energy (100J/cm2) and the largest spot size (18mm diameter),
characteristics which enable deeper penetration by laser energy
of the targeted area and faster treatments than first generation,
long pulse ruby, alexandrite diode lasers, or flashlamp devices.
The GentleLASE Plus system also offers precise and non-invasive
laser treatment of cosmetic skin conditions - ideal for dermatologists,
plastic surgeons and other medical practitioners.

Dynamic Cooling Device TM
Epidermal Protection and Faster Treatment-- Even at High Fluences
GentleLASE
Plus's unique, integrated DCD is based on proprietary Candela
technology. In fact, it is the only long-pulse alexandrite
laser with dynamic cooling. This safe, innovative process
selectively cools the epidermis during low and high fluence
treatments.
DCD delivers a short, targeted burst of
non-toxic cryogen onto the top layers of the patient's skin
milliseconds before the laser pulse. This evaporative coolant
speeds up treatment, without affecting the underlying targeted
hair follicles and blood vessels or impeding your visibility.
Furthermore, the DCD reduces the need for
cooling gels and expensive anesthesia for most patients. Best
of all, it helps decrease patients' treatment times, and allows
for quick recovery.
What the experts have to say.
"The longer
alexandrite wavelength enables GentleLASE to penetrate
deeper than ruby lasers. The large spot size (15mm) not
only allows the physician to treat a larger area more
quickly, but also helps the laser penetrate deeper than
those with smaller spot sizes. Cimbined with the Dynamic
Cooling Device, this laser can safely and selectively
danage deeper hair structures while protecting the epidermis."
Thomas E. Rohrer, MD
Director, Dermatologic Surgery
Boston University, School of Medecine
Boston, Massachusetts
"This system has proved quite effective in
treating leg veins, particularly large purple or blue veins.
We have been able to provide more comfortable treatment and,
for the first time, deliver high energy, more deeply, without
risk to collateral tissue."
Arielle N. B. Kavrar, MD

"...half the cost and twice as fast as most
systems. It also works on a wider range of skin types."
Dr. Michael Clinton
Plastic Surgeon
Birmingham, Alabama
"It's by far the fastest I've seen. And I've
seen them all. I'm able to do a back in 40 minutes, lower
leggs in half an hour, and an upper lip in about a minute."
Dr. Denise Forte-Pathroff
Dermatologist
Bismark, North Dakota
"With GentleLASE integrated dynamic cooling,
I'm able to provide faster treatment, even at the highest
fluences, while preventing thermal injury. Patients experience
excellent clearance with virtually no side effects. I've tried
other lasers and this is the best."
Stephen Eubanks, MD
Medical Director
Rocky Mountain Laser Clinic, Inc.
Denver, Colorado
What the experts have to say about
darker skin types.
"In our study of 85 patients with skin types
I-IV, we found an almost 40% reduction in hair one and a half
years after only a single treatment and a 73% reduction a
year and a half after three treatments. Clinically we have
been treating skin types V and VI now without problem. The
larger spot size (18mm) and the dynamic cooling device allow
safe treatment of darker skin types."
Thomas E. Rohrer, MD
Director, Dermatologic Surgery
Boston University, School of Medecine
Boston, Massachusetts
"As hair removal lasers work on the melanin
principle, the ideal patient is very fair with dark hair.
But we can use it on African American and Mediterranean skin
types. You simply have to go down in power. Specifically,
the GentleLASE has been very useful, because we can go lower
on power and still treat very dark-skinned patients with no
comlications and very good hair results."
Michael S. Clinton, MD
Grotting Core Wolsley & Clinton
Birmingham, Alabama
"The Dynamic Cooling Device and lower fluences
are the keys to safely treating darker skin patients."
Steven Ugent, MD
Assistant Professor of Dermatology
Boston University, School of Medecine
"Since the lowest amount of energy necessary
to remove hair is still enough to damage the overlying skin,
GentlLASE's Dynamic Cooling Device not only allows us to provide
treatments that are less painful, but also allows us to protect
the overlying epidermis for most skin types."
Jeffrey S. Dover, MD, FRCPC
Director of Skincare Physicians
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts
"The variable spot sizes adjustable fluence
levels and the unique cooling system of the GentleLASE Laser
makes it safe and effective for treating patients of all skin
types for hair removal."
Lorenzo Kunze, ME CPE, Laser Specialist
Rocky Mountain Laser Clinic
Denver, Colorado
"The adjustable laser parameters and the
unique cooling system of the GentleLASE laser allows me to
routinely treat and eliminate ingrown hairs and "beard bumps"
on patients with skin types IV & V."
Eliot Lach, MD, F.A.C.S.
UMass Memorial Medical Center
Worcester, Massachusetts
"You can safely and effectively use the GentleLASE
on skin type V patients and I have been doing so for two years."

Patient Info
What is the Candela GentleLASE laser
and why is it a safe treatment?
Lasers have
been used for many years for a variety of medical cosmetic
procedures including treatment of facial and leg veins,
age spots and rejuvenating the skin on the face. The GentleLASE
System, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy alexandrite
laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through
the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The
laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys
the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic
Cooling DeviceTM where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin
cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased
comfort. The GentleLASE
selectivity helps to protect the skin, while effectively
treating the unwanted hair.
What conditions are treated with
the laser?
Traditional
hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing
and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Until
now, the only recognized way to remove hair permanently
has been by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time-consuming
and uncomfortable. The GentleLASE System safely removes
unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores
and structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are
usually completed in under ten minutes; legs, backs and
larger areas can take longer.
What does the treatment include?
Depending on
the amount of hair treated, the procedure varies from
patient to patient. Generally, the treatment will include:
* Wearing safety eyewear
to protect the practitioner and patient's eyes from the
laser light during the procedure.
* A small handpiece Will be used that
touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray
of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each
laser pulse.
* A test area will be done prior to
the entire treatment. Your full treatment may be done
on the same day or up to two weeks later, depending on
the skin reaction.
* Most patients experience little discomfort
at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device.
* The degree of discomfort varies with
each person, depending on his/her pain threshold. Topical
anesthesia may also be requested based on individual preferences
or tolerances. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner
in advance of the laser treatment.
* The procedure can take as little as
10 minutes or up to an hour, depending on the area treatment.
* The treated area may become pink or
red within 30 minutes of treatment; this may last from
a few hours to several days and is relieved with the application
of ice or cooling gels.
What precautions should be taken
before and after treatment?
* Avoid the sun 4-6
weeks before and after treatment or until your practitioner
allows it.
* You must avoid electrolysis, plucking
or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment.
* If you have had a history of per ioral
herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
* If you have a dark skin type, a bleaching
cream may be started 4-6 weeks before
treatment to optimize results.
* You should discuss your desired results
and the improvements you expect to achieve with your practitioner.
Together you can decide if your expectations will be met
and if this laser treatment is the best option.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair grows in
cycles. The number of treatments required depends upon
your skin color and coarseness of the hair. Everyone will
require at least 2-3 treatments as the process is only
effective on hair during the early growing cycle. Repeat
sessions will be necessary to treat these follicles when
they re-enter the early growth phase.
Is this procedure covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies
do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. However,
consult with your insurance carrier for more information.
